Néstor Garrote is Principal Oboe at the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra and Professor at the Orchestra Academy of the Teatro Colón. He plays on Marigaux oboes.
Néstor made the Argentinean premiere of many pieces including the Oboe Concerto by Zimmermann, Double Concerto by Lutoslawski, Concert à quatre by Messiaen and Chemin IV by Berio.
He performed with orchestras such as the Freiburger Kammerorchester (Germany), Serenata Basel, Symphonisches Orchester Zürich (Switzerland) and the Reina Sofía Chamber Orchestra (Spain). In 1992 he moved to Spain where he was appointed Principal Oboe in the Córdoba Orchestra and faculty member of the Andalusian Youth Orchestra (O.J.A.).
Néstor is passionate in educating young, aspiring musicians. Since his return to Argentina in 2001, he has given courses and masterclasses in music festivals in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, etc. He is a founding member and director of Oboefest (Rosario), one of the main international oboe conferences in Latin America, between 2012-2014. As a conductor, he led the Chilean Chamber Orchestra in concert cycles dedicated to repertoire for wind instruments.
He began his musical studies in Argentina, then continuing at Hochschule für Musik in Bern and Zurich (Switzerland), with Hans Elhorst and Thomas Indermühle.
Néstor is an active soloist and chamber musician, frequently offering recitals with the prestigious pianist Liza Chung.
