Cindy Lin

Clarinetist Cindy Lin was born in 1981 in Taiwan, where she began her studies of piano and clarinet as ages 6 and 9. She soon moved to Australia and continued her studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. In 2007, Cindy graduated with First Prize and highest honors from C.N.S.M de Paris, as well as Soloist Diploma from I’HEMU de Lausanne, Switzerland in 2008. Cindy also received L.MUS.A from the Australian Associated Music Examination Board for both Piano and Clarinet.

Known for her superb tone (resmusica.com) and musicianship (Bachtrack), Cindy is principal clarinetist of Orchestre de Chambre de Geneve since 2006. As an orchestral musician, she has played as guest principal to be BBC Symphony Orchestra in London, Chambre de Lausanne, Verbier Chamber Orchestra, Bern Symphonic Orchestra, Orchester Biel Solothurn, Sinfonietta de Lausanne.

As Soloist, Cindy made appearances with orchestras such the as Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Orchestre de Chambre de Geneve, Orchestra del Teatro Lirico di Spoleto, Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino, Sydney Conservatorium Orchestra, Balmain Sinfonia, Kurringgai Philharmonic Orchestra. Her repertoire includes the classical Weber, Mozart, Copland Clarinet Concertos and Mendelssohn Concert Pieces to Artie Shaw Jazz Concerto. Her special performance of the Weber Clarinet Concerto No.2 with the SBS Television and Radio Youth Orchestra in Beijing, China was made into a documentary and diffused by the SBS Channel. Many of Cindy’s performances has also been recorded live or in studio by broadcasting companies such as ABC Australia, 2MBS-FM, Espace 2 and RSI. Cindy also gave concerts in International music festivals such as ClarinetFest, Festival d’Entrecasteaus, Cully Classicque, Festival Fiati di Novara and masterclasses in Italy, and in China representing Vandoren.

Cindy received numerous scholarships and awards: Leon Leblanc, Buffet Crampon and Vandoren, Foundation Juchum Achievement Grant (Switzerland), Academy of Villecroze Music Scholarship (France), Big Brother Scholarship for the Arts (Australia), Governor’s Scholarship (Australia), 1st prize in the International Competition of Chieri (Italy), 3rd prize in the Migros Chamber Music Competition (Switzerland), 1st prize in the Marco Fiorindo International Chamber Music Competition (Italy).

Cindy is a founder of the reed trio CLAB which commenced in 2002 and specializes in contemporary repertoire. The group has been managed by Pro Helvetia and toured in France, Italy, Tunisia, Poland, Italy and Switzerland. The renowned Swiss composer, Michel Hostettler has written a piece dedicated to the group and was premiered in Rome in the Swiss Embassy in 2006.

Now based in Geneva, Switzerland, Cindy teaches historical Clarinet at the HeMU in Lausanne and Clarinet at the Conservatoire de Vevey. Cindy is a Backun, Silverstein and Vandoren Artist and performs on Backun MoBa Cocobolo Gold Key Clarinets, Silverstein Ligature, Vandoren B40 Lyre Profile 88 mouthpiece and V12 reeds.
